“For a limited time only, we’ve added leopard spots to our famous Wink-Ease eye protection, and are offering 50 pair of Wink-Ease Leopard in a zipper pack,” said EYE PRO President Brenda Fishbaugh.  “These are great for salons to use for promotions – and for every pack purchased, we will be donating $1 to the Clouded Leopard Project to help rescue efforts of this rare Asian cat,” continued Fishbaugh.

“These small leopards are found in the rain forests of Thailand,” Fishbaugh explained. “They are called “clouded” because their leopard spots are very large – like light gray “clouds” covering their compact bodies.”  Fishbaugh found that while there were many organizations working to save animals like the tiger and panda, lesser-known endangered animals were hugely underfunded. “Several zookeepers we have worked with in the past are now focusing their efforts to save the Clouded Leopards. Our donation will make a HUGE difference to keep their efforts alive.”

You’ve dreamed up lots of ways to get tanners through your door… anniversary parties, back-to-school week and “Pauly D” events. I particularly love those that showcase your community involvement, such as Tans for Cans, Toys for Tots, collecting pet food for a local animal shelter and helping out the military in your area. What a great idea – help someone and get some free press at the same time…

June 1, 2012 – EYE PRO, Inc., world leader in eyewear and makers of WINK-EASE, VIEWkeepers, Fresh-Ease, and Wink-Ease Dark is once again committed to helping others.

Renee Lofland, EYE PRO’s Director of Customer Support, heard about a local fundraiser for Charis House, who assists and provides for women and children experiencing a homeless crisis in Fort Wayne, Allen County and the nine surrounding areas. Renee rallied the troops at EYE PRO, asking everyone to clean out closets, get friends and family involved, and collect donations for Charis House.

“It seemed like a perfect fit for all of us,” said Lofland. “In an office filled with women who have families, it just made sense to help other women and children find a fresh start through Charis House.”  “They need a lot of assistance with their mission to not only find relief from homelessness, but help these families heal and move forward again,” she continued.

In addition to providing a place for women and children to stay, the 78-bed Charis House provides free programs which include assistance in finding jobs and housing, building life and parenting skills, and learning how to experience emotionally stability and better navigate life’s challenges. Needs lists include clothing, toys, personal toiletries, towels, linens, cleaning supplies and laundry soap. Charis House is part of the Rescue Mission of Fort Wayne, whose mission is to provide restorative care for men, women and children in homeless crisis. Annually, more than 216,000 meals and 46,000 nights of lodging are provided, in addition to goal-oriented programs, job readiness training, and spiritual, emotional and physical healing.

June 13, 2012 — The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) updated its position on sunless spray tanning on June 5, 2012.  The  FDA requires that all sunless spray consumers should protect their lips, eyes and noses when sunless spray tanning. Wow! We can do so much with our phones these days…and your tanners are not just making calls during their sessions. Yes, they’re texting and playing games while getting a golden glow in your salon. Is it dangerous to have your eyes open while tanning indoors? Yes; but only if you ARE NOT wearing eye protection. All goggles and disposable eye protection shown in major tanning distribution catalogs and advertised in ist Magazine provide a complete UV block, and yes, they are all see-through!

If you’ve reading my columns regularly, you know that I’m a “clean freak.” I’m the person who travels with disinfectant wipes to sanitize my seat on the airplane and my hotel room (the TV remote and phones get the first swipes). So, when salon owners tell me that they have a CLEAN salon, I am skeptical. What does “clean” mean? Your version may not match mine…How clean is clean?
