FDA Allows Disposable Eyewear to be Used Only ONCE

Friday, February 2nd, 2018

February 2018 – EYE PRO, Inc., world leader in disposable eye protection for indoor tanning and makers of Ultra Gold WINK-EASE, Lash Room WINK-EASE and WINK-EASE Dark, is all about providing salon support.

“Do you have tanners that use the same pair of disposable eyewear over and over?” asks Brenda Fishbaugh, EYE PRO president. “This is NOT allowed by the FDA and we can provide you proof to share with your tanners. If you’re a salon, we can send you our “One Time Use” letter on Eye Pro stationery indicating we are licensed as a Class One Medical Product. Since disposable eye protection cannot be properly cleaned, it can only be worn ONCE,” Fishbaugh continued.

“Disposable eye protection is a Class One Medical Device, just like cotton balls and tongue depressors. You surely wouldn’t use a tongue depressor more than once,” explains Jackie DeWald, Office Manager.

Everything You’ve Always Wanted To Know About Buying Eye Protection … But Were Afraid To Ask

Thursday, February 1st, 2018

I’ve recently been on the road training the staff at your favorite product distributors, and the reps shared with me some of the questions they are asked by YOU, when you are buying eye protection.

“I don’t think many buyers are aware of what a big money maker eyewear can be,” related a long-time distributor rep. “Since NJ and Ohio changed their laws, only three states require that salons provide eyewear: Texas, Pennsylvania, and New York. So, salons in other states have a wonderful opportunity to sell eye protection to each and every tanner for about $5 pair per year, or .50 cents for disposables for every session. He continues, “While I’m at it, operators need to encourage tanners to replace their own pair at least once a year.”

A sunless specialist for a leading distributor encourages salons with spray-tanning to offer clear disposable eye protection.

WINK-EASE offers NEWLY UPDATED FREE Counter Mat to Promote Eye Protection!

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2018

January 2018 – EYE PRO, Inc., world leader in disposable eye protection for indoor tanning and makers of Ultra Gold WINK-EASE, Lash Room WINK-EASE and WINK-EASE Dark, is offering salons a FREE new counter mat to educate tanners on why eye protection is critical.

“Over the years, we have created several versions of our laminated counter mat for salons,” says Brenda Fishbaugh, EYE PRO president. “This educational tool has helped thousands of salon owners convince their clients to wear eye protection. Our theory is simple — a picture is worth a thousand words!” says Fishbaugh.

“For stressing the importance of EDUCATION to salon owners, staff and the tanner, this eye protection piece has been second to none,” explains Jackie DeWald, EYE PRO Office Manager.  [removed sentence] “The photos of eye damage from unprotected tanning are dramatic, but the counter mat is not meant to be viewed by itself. We don’t want to scare the tanner, but instead use this piece as a tool to have at the counter or attached to the new customer clipboard, so every new client receives information on why eye protection is required,” she continued. “As soon as tanners see what can happen to their eyes without proper eye protection, they understand the importance! Tanners are now ready to wear eyewear when tanning,” DeWald concluded. (more…)

Test Your “EYE-Q”… Expert Version

Monday, January 1st, 2018

My Beginner’s Version” of “Test your ‘Eye-Q’” in THE July 2017 IST was a big hit! The “Intermediate Version” appeared in the November 2017 issue. But, are you an EXPERT? Here’s the test:

When I change lamps in my tanning units, do I need to protect my eyes?

Yes! It is critical for an equipment maintenance tech to wear eye protection when checking or changing lamps in your salon. There are inexpensive UV block safety glasses (under $10) designed just for this use and every salon should have a couple of pairs on hand. Check with your favorite distributor to order. Some technicians wear sunglasses, but the shape and design rarely block the UV light from all the sides to provide adequate protection. They also tend to have dark lenses, which makes it difficult to see when the tanning room is dark and the unit has not yet been turned on.

I always wear my own goggles when I tan. Do I need to clean them?

Give The Gift of Color Vision; New Glasses Heal the Color Blind

Friday, December 1st, 2017

Maybe you’ve already seen it on TV: the new, miracle eyeglasses that can restore a colorblind person’s ability to discern colors. Enchroma is the company that created the technol- ogy that allows red/green colorblind people to see what they’ve been missing. A friend of mine and all her siblings pooled their funds to buy them for their father. “At $349, the glasses are little pricey,” comments Abby Leon. “My dad was overwhelmed when he put them on. He really didn’t know what he’d been missing!” So, what is color blindness, or Color Vision Deficiency (CVD)? People with this condition are unable to see colors under normal light, and have a hard time telling one color from another.

Test Your “EYE-Q” – Intermediate Version

Wednesday, November 1st, 2017

The Beginner’s Version of “Test your ‘Eye-Q’” in the July 2017 issue was a big hit! Here are a few tougher questions often asked by salon guests. How would you answer them?

Q: If I’m wearing eye protection during my tanning session and open my eyes, am I risking eye damage?

A: If you wear FDA-compliant eyewear that fits properly, your eyes are completely protected from UV light. Feel free to open your eyes to check the time, adjust the fans and change channels on the sound system. As long as your eyewear fits properly, you are protecting your vision. Your eyelids block less than 25% of damag- ing rays, so keeping them closed when you AREN’T wearing eyewear
is NOT protection!

Q: I cover my face during sunbed sessions. Do I need to wear eye protection?

WINK-EASE Helps Salons “Make the Switch” and Make More Profits!

Monday, October 2nd, 2017

FT. WAYNE, IN – Eye Pro, Inc., world leader in disposable Eye Protec- tion for indoor tanning and makers of Ultra Gold WINK-EASE, Lash Room WINK-EASE and WINK-EASE Dark, is offering salon owners a FREE step-by- step guide on how to stop providing shared eyewear and sell it, instead.

“Salons are always looking for ways to make a profit on accessories,” explains Brenda Fishbaugh, Eye Pro President. “Sometimes, salons don’t realize the expenses involved in providing eyewear for free instead of selling it,” she continues. “We’ve created the handout called, ‘Making the Switch: To only SELLING Eye Protection’ with easy, step-by-step instructions to help operators implement a new policy of not providing eye protection and stop losing money on it.”

Goggles need to be disinfected properly and most salons don’t follow the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) instructions and manufacturer’s instructions. “Did you know solution is required to be mixed daily and goggles must soak for ten minutes?” Fishbaugh asks.“Or, that clean goggles need to be in a covered container to avoid contamination?” (more…)
